Touchless biometrics · Android & iOS

Fingerprints,
captured by any smartphone.

Biocapture turns the rear camera of a standard phone into an AFIS-ready fingerprint scanner. Hold up your hand – four fingers are detected, tracked and captured in one shot. No sensor, no contact, no extra hardware.

Animation of the Biocapture process: a hand is held sideways in front of the phone camera (own scan or second-person scan), four fingertips are detected, the hand moves from far to close and back while focus and liveness are checked, the fingerprints are captured and enhanced, and an AFIS extracts their minutiae for enrollment or verification. 0.98 0.99 0.97 0.95 0.98 0.99 0.97 0.95 Hold up four fingers Scan the person's hand Detecting fingertips… Far → close → far Liveness check… Captured ✓ Sent to AFIS ✓ farclose parallax ✓glare ✓ fingerprint images · enhanced · true scale R2 R2 · 9 R3 R3 · 11 R4 R4 · 7 R5 R5 · 9 R2 · 9 = finger · minutiae extracted by the AFIS NIST RECORD Type-14 · 4 fingers · 500 ppi WSQ ISO/IEC 19794-4 ANSI 381 AFIS minutiae Enroll with identity✓ Verify / identify✓

How it works

From hand to AFIS record in three steps.

Online or offline – the capture runs entirely on the device.

  1. 01

    Scan

Scan your own hand – or, in second-person mode, an officer scans someone else's. The scan assistant guides placement; torch and exposure are controlled automatically.

  2. 02

    Process

A neural network tracks each fingertip while the hand moves from far to close and back, picks the sharpest frames, checks liveness and produces enhanced, calibrated fingerprint images at 500 or 1000 dpi.

  3. 03

    Save, enroll or verify

Store on the device, send to a server for later processing, enroll into an AFIS database with identity data – or verify and identify against existing records.

Features

A fingerprint scanner in your pocket.

AI finger detection

A neural network finds and tracks every fingertip in the live preview – fast enough for real-time feedback on mid-range phones.

Scan assistant

An animated hand template shows where to place the fingers – for your own hand or, in second-person mode, for someone else's (e.g. police checks). Fewer retries, better first captures.

Presentation attack detection

Photos, screens and printed fakes are rejected. Glare and parallax analysis runs passively while the user scans.

Device calibration

Each phone model is calibrated for true scale, so the output resolution is exact – easy enough for users to do themselves.

Standard output

WSQ, JPEG 2000, PNG or raw bitmap; ANSI/INCITS 381, ISO/IEC 19794 and 39794, NIST Type 14 and Interpol XML.

Missing fingers

Fingers that are missing or injured can be skipped. Single fingers, thumbs and four-finger slaps are supported.

Works offline

Capture and processing happen on the device. No account needed; offline licensing available for disconnected field use.

Your brand

Colors, images and texts of the scan screens are customizable, so Biocapture blends into your own app.

Security

Only real fingers get through.

Presentation attack detection (PAD) analyzes the live frames while the user scans – no extra step, no extra time. Both platforms share the same algorithms and thresholds.

  • Parallax check. Real fingers move independently in 3D. A photo or screen moves as one rigid plane – Biocapture tracks every finger across frames and spots the difference.
  • Glare check. With the torch on, real skin reflects light unevenly. Flat replicas show a uniform glare pattern across all fingers.
  • Fraud analysis. A detected attack ends the scan with a reason code for logging and later review.

Standards & AFIS

Speaks the language of your AFIS.

Tested against common fingerprint matchers and AFIS databases – and easily adapted to custom formats.

Try it

Get the Biocapture app.

The Biocapture demo app shows the complete scan flow: capture, review and share your fingerprints in standard formats. No account, works offline. Captured fingerprints stay on your device unless you share them.
